Why Cruising?
Published Wednesday, June 30th 2021 - Updated Wednesday, June 30th 2021It was so nice to be back on the open seas, I have to admit that sailing those open seas, sitting out on the balcony and watching the endless blue water pass me by, catching those unique views of the sun as it dips down past the horizon with nothing to obstruct my view, it's all something that I can only experience while I'm cruising and I'm addicted to it!!! Before corontine got me, I was cruising 5 or 6 times a year.
Don't get me wrong, I love my land travel! But one of the things that I love to leverage cruising for, besides getting my sailing fix, is to visit multiple destinations and get a small taste of them before I commit to spending several days there.
For example, when I return to Greece, I likely wouldn't spend more than 2 or 3 days in Mykonos, and I would only stay there if I was able to stay in a tiny villa near 'Little Venice'. The rest of the island didn't really have much appeal to me, and I would have been disappointed if I had come and planted myself in the outskirts of town for 5 days. Of course, that's not the case for everyone, some people would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to spend the rest of their days on the lazy outskirts of the port.
That's what is cool about cruising for me, I get to check it out and come back later. My favorite stop in Greece was Rhodes (pronounced Rodos). That's was really a surprise as I wasn't even planning on being interested in more than a 6 hour visit that the cruise would provide. Well guess what, now I know and I can plan a nice week long vacation in a spot I likely never would have chosen.
I love you cruising, I love you for the experience on board, I love you for the bite size exposure to destinations, I love you for the friends I make along the journey!
